1. Journey — From a Small Classroom to a Lifetime of Service
“A true teacher doesn’t just teach lessons… he shapes lives.”
Vyankatrao Barge, lovingly known as Barge Guruji, started his journey in the small village of Bhandewadi as a young primary school teacher after completing his education in B. Ed. During his teaching journey, he worked in several places, including Khatav, Khatgun, Rajapur, and retired as headmaster at Jakhangaon Higher Primary School. With very few resources, a simple classroom, and children from humble families, he carried only one powerful dream:
“Every child in my village must rise higher than their circumstances.”
He worked day and night, preparing lessons, checking notebooks, guiding parents, and building confidence in children who doubted themselves.
Additionally, he made a lot of effort as a supervisor to build the lake, construct the road, and provide food to workers during the 1972 draught.
Slowly, his passion and hard work were recognised, and Barge Guruji became the headmaster of the school — a role he used not for authority, but for service.
2. Success Story — Turning a Village School into an Idea Model School
“If children are given the right guidance, the whole village rises.”
As a headmaster, Barge Guruji changed the entire spirit of the school:
- Prepared students for scholarship exams, and many got selected
- Taught English in a simple, easy-to-understand way
- Introduced new learning methods, activities & discipline
- Brought students together for reading, writing & creativity
- Developed teachers, united parents & built trust in education
Under his leadership, Jakhangaon Primary School became known as:
“One of the Best Schools in Satara District.”
His students who once struggled to read went on to score top marks, win scholarships, and become confident achievers.
3. Impact — Teaching Beyond Textbooks
“A teacher’s job is not limited to the classroom… it is a responsibility to the village.”
Barge Guruji believed in serving society as much as serving students. His impact touched every corner of Jakhangaon:
- Planted hundreds of trees and built awareness of environment
- Distributed free books to poor students
- Paid school fees for children who could not afford
- Supported families who struggled to keep children in school
- Helped bright students reach scholarship and higher studies
- Inspired many students who later became teachers, officers, and professionals
His teaching did not end during school hours. He visited homes, listened to parents, and guided every child like his own. With his continued support, more than 25 students were selected in a prestigious scholarship exam conducted for 4 th and 7th-standard students.
4. Philosophy — The Heart of His Teaching
“A teacher must be the first hope for a child.”
Barge Guruji lived by simple but powerful principles:
- Teach with love, not fear
- Explain tough subjects in simple ways
- Give extra time to students who need it the most
- Never let poverty stops a child’s education
- Discipline + kindness = strong foundation
His favorite belief:
“Education is the light that removes darkness from a family forever.”
And he lived this truth not only at school but at home too.
He raised his children with the same values:
- His son became a CEO in an MNC
- His daughter became a Branch Manager in Satara district bank
A true example of how a teacher’s values build generations.
